India’s Safety Uncertain, Ex-Pakistani Stars Advises Hybrid Champions Trophy

The questions raised over India’s participation in the forthcoming ICC Champions Trophy, which will be held in Pakistan, continue to be the subject of discussion.

Recent statements by Rashid Latif, a former cricketer for Pakistan, indicate a “fifty percent confirmation” that India may visit Pakistan. Nevertheless, Danish Kaneria, a former spinner for Pakistan, has expressed worries over the safety of Indian players if they were to come to Pakistan.

Given Pakistan’s present state of affairs, Kaneria stressed that it may not be prudent for India to send their squad to Pakistan. He proposed that Pakistan rethink its decision and projected that the International Cricket Council (ICC) may use a hybrid approach, with some matches being played in Dubai instead.

The last time India traveled to Pakistan for the Asia Cup was in 2008, and since Pakistan’s visit to India for five one-day internationals in 2012-13, not a single bilateral series has been played between the two nations.

In the most recent instance, Pakistan visited India in preparation for the One-Day International World Cup in 2023; however, the Indian government continues to be hesitant about sending their team to Pakistan owing to the current political difficulties.

Kaneria brought attention to the fact that the safety of the players should be the first concern, followed by respect for everyone involved. He admired the BCCI’s handling of the problem and believed that other nations would recognize their decision.

To make travel easier for both the Indian team and their supporters, there have been rumors that Pakistan would play all of India’s matches in Lahore, which is located near the border between Wagah and Attari. On the other hand, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is considering a hybrid format comparable to the Asia Cup that took place in Sri Lanka the previous year.
